On Saturdy July 16, 2016 from Noon to 8pm, the 8th Annual Alburtis Police Department's Hawaiian Luau was held at the Alburtis Area Community Center’s Pool. The Hawaiian Luau was organized by the Alburtis Police Department and the pool staff. Over 300 people attended the event. From 2pm to 6pm various games were conducted by the pool staff with prizes given out. The event included a pig roast with a 200 lb pig prepared by Dean Lotte and paid for by sponsor J. P. Mascaro & Sons. Approximately 200 hot dogs, provided by Hatfield, were made by Dean Lotte and Janet Hunt. Hot Dog rolls and hamburger rolls were donated by Norm’s Shell Station. Jared Thompson and family had an Alex’s Lemonade Stand to raise funds for pediatric cancer research and support.
Canned goods were collected for the local food bank and a basket raffle was conducted to raise funds for the Alburtis Police Department’s Crime Prevention Program. The basket raffle raised $86.00 towards the program.
Special thanks go to pool manager Karen Semet for helping to organize the event, Ethel Rex for donating baskets for the raffle, Elizabeth Tepes for helping out with the raffle and serving food, and the pool staff for helping with the games.
Ken Osmond (the actor who played Eddie Haskell in Leave it the Beaver) became a Los Angeles Police Officer after the show ended. He ended up being shot in the line of duty and survived because of his bullet proof vest. He is now retired.
