On Tuesday August 2, 2016, from 6pm to 9pm, the Alburtis Police Department conducted our 9th Annual National Night Out event at the Alburtis Area Community Center’s Pool. A crowd of over 300 people attended the event with everyone having a wonderful time. The band “Bootleg Express” provided the music and, in between their sets, provided additional entertainment which included a limbo game, a hula hoop game, and magic for those in attendance. The Alburtis Fire Department provided lighting for the event and sold their infamous “waffles and ice cream” with rave reviews.
Lehigh County Sheriff Joseph Hanna and Chief Deputy Sheriff David Faust made an appearance and handed out coloring books to the children.
Canned goods were collected for the local food bank and a basket raffle was held to raise funds for the Alburtis Police Department’s Crime Prevention Program.
Special thanks go to pool manager, Karen Semet, for helping to organize the event, Ms. Ethel Rex and Mayor Kathleen Palmer and her family for donating baskets for the raffle, everyone who assisted with selling raffle tickets, Janet Hunt for making the hot dogs, and the pool staff for ensuring everyone’s safety and assisting with anything needed.
I would like to express thanks to our donors for the event: Norm’s Shell Station, which donated all the hot dog rolls and A-Treat soda; Hatfield Quality Meats for donating hot dogs; J.P. Mascaro & Sons, ESSA Bank and Trust, Embassy Bank, and McDonald’s-Macungie for monetary donations; and Chipotle Mexican Grill for gift card donations.
Finally, I would like to thank the support of Chief Robert Palmer, Mayor Kathleen Palmer, the Alburtis Borough Council, and the Alburtis Area Community Center for their continued support of the National Night Out Program.
Ken Osmond (the actor who played Eddie Haskell in Leave it the Beaver) became a Los Angeles Police Officer after the show ended. He ended up being shot in the line of duty and survived because of his bullet proof vest. He is now retired.
